Many people who we support can be fearful or frustrated, which can be communicated through their behaviour. Our bespoke courses teach learners to prevent triggers and tode-escalate situations of anger and aggression. When required, we can also provide training in the latest techniques for disengagement and safe holding
With a combined 60 years of in Teaching, Mental Health nursing and Learning Disability nursing, our trainers can bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to your training.
We fully recognise that your service is unique, however, and we would like to work closely with you to build a full picture of your training needs, and develop a training programme that is truly yours
We offer a full array of accredited skills for the health and social care sector, ranging from break-and-escape to skills for safe-holding.
Our strongest emphasis, however, is training in incident prevention and de-escalation, in order to reduce the need for physical intervention.
While the physical skills training obviously has to be delivered on a face-to-face basis, we can offer the theory part of the training as a bespoke online course designed for your service, giving maximum cost-effectiveness.
Research has consistently shown that when care and support staff encounter fear-based or anger-based behaviours, they will leap to negative conclusions about the person. Reactions can include beliefs that the person is "doing this on purpose" or are "singling me out." This can only result in a downward spiral of negative behaviour on the part of everyone, leading to negative care outcomes.
We therefore conduct all training in the context of the Positive Behaviour Support Model. Learners are encouraged to always seek triggers for behaviour and ways to reduce and eliminate them, alongside evidence-based ways of de-escalating confrontational situations. As experienced mental health and learning disability professionals, we are also well-equipped to discuss clinical reasons for some behaviours
Like any branch of Health and Safety, the Positive Behaviour Support Model recognises that preventative measures may not always work, even when we have the best support plans and dedicated staff in place. We therefore offer training in approved break-and-escape and safe holding techniques, to ensure that your staff team manage incidents in the way that maintains the safety of all parties.
